WW2 Maritime Commission Chelsea ships clock

An original Chelsea of Boston Ships clock that dates to June 1943.

After war started Chelsea switched from Brass to Bakelite cases for its clocks to preserve precious materials.

The clock mechanism is an original Chelsea clock with matching numbers on the mechanism and the case.

The number corresponds to Chelsea clocks made from 1940 to 1944 - and was part of an order despatched from Chelsea in mid June 1943 to the United States Maritime Commission..

The clock has a 12E mechanism and the smaller wartime knurled knob as shown.

The bakelite case is intact with no scratches or cracks . We have only re-polished the bakelite.

Face is very clean and crisp and has been resilvered.

The clock is fully working and keeps perfect time and an 8 day wind. We have just oiled it.

The second hand has been replaced with a non original one at some point in the past.

It has a clear glass with no large scratches.

As it was meant to be bulkhead mounted - we have turned a section of black walnut and mounted it on it with a slot mount to the rear.

A very nice, working clock from WW2.
